"Lose weight by eating slowly" seems to good to be true but you can research the internet  for "eating slowly" (Google: "Eating Slowly") and you will find lots of proof that it works and why it works.

The article in wikiHow (Above) which I originally wrote was destroyed in order to favor a couple of idiotic gadgets but you may want to take a look at it anyway and decide if you want to buy a contraption that reduces oral cavity and costs about $500.00 or look for "Diet plastic forks" at $8.00 each (I believe the forks are a joke but wikiHow decided to back them). What they don't tell you is how you can keep your food from getting cold (They don't know) or how to acquire the habit; eating slowly is not a simple decision or a New Year's resolution to be abandoned by the end of January.

Eat slowly as part of any diet or weight loss program you choose. Give your "Hunger Sensors" time to "trigger", to realize you are satisfied, not hungry anymore; enjoy your food and avoid overeating and obesity

In a nutshell: Eating slowly works because you give time to your body for the digestive and hormonal processes to take place which in turn signal the brain (More precisely the hypothalamus in your brain) that you are satisfied; if we eat too fast we can overeat and still be hungry. We acquire the habit by making it a pleasant experience (savoring the food); not by using stupid gadgets.

(How to acquire the habit)

There are many methods that go into detail about how to chew slowly, put down your fork etc.; we will tell you something that is focused in acquiring a habit, not a simple decision to eat slowly; see the steps below:

  1. First of all, you need to learn and be convinced that eating slowly really works to avoid overeating and why it works (Google "eating slowly sites" after you read this whole page please).
  2. Start rehearsing in your mind daily (visualize vividly, in detail) how you are going to eat slowly for at least 21 days before you even attempt it and  visualize also the end result (How you are going to look in that dress, suit jeans, bikini, etc.) Dedicate 20 minutes daily to this "virtual" practicing; experience of success helps and experience can be synthesized with our imagination (Like when we rehearse mentally for a Job interview).
  3. Always relax before eating (take a few deep breaths) and drink a glass of water before your meal (Drink water with your food too and after you finish eating)
  4. Eat slowly and enjoy (Yes, it is a good idea to put your fork down after each bite, chew well, taste your food, use any trick you can learn); eating slowly needs to be a pleasant experience (You will be discouraged if your food gets cold) if you want to acquire this healthy habit that should be part of any diet or weight loss program you choose.
